Terms of Service

Version 2026-09-07 · effective 7 September 2026

Operator details are being finalised; this page will name the operating entity, its state, and a mailing address.

Who provides the service

Backvest is provided by its operator (“Backvest”, “we”). These terms are an agreement between you and the operator.

What Backvest is

Backvest is a research tool. It runs historical backtests on real mutual funds and ETFs and reports what those portfolios would have done over periods that have already happened. It does not predict returns, and a backtest is not evidence that a portfolio will behave the same way going forward.

Not investment advice

Nothing on Backvest is investment, tax, or legal advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Backvest is not a registered investment adviser or broker-dealer. You are solely responsible for your own investment decisions, and you should consult a qualified professional before acting on anything you see here. Investing involves risk, including the possible loss of principal.

Accuracy and data limits

Market data comes from third-party providers and may contain errors, gaps, or revisions. Funds younger than a requested test window have history assembled from older share classes or benchmarks — every such splice is disclosed in the methodology table on the relevant result. Datasets of surviving funds exclude funds that closed or merged, which flatters results in ways no tool can fully correct. Backvest is provided “as is,” without warranty of any kind. See About & method for how these limits are handled throughout the product.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account. Accounts are for a single person; don't share them. We may suspend accounts that abuse the service — for example by automating requests at a volume that degrades it for others.

Subscriptions, automatic renewal and refunds

Premium costs $4.99 per month, or $39 per year where a yearly plan is offered, billed in advance through Stripe, which processes and stores all payment details — Backvest never sees or stores your card number. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period, and your payment method is charged the then-current price for the next period, until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from Manage billing in Settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, you keep Premium until then, and you are not charged again. Payments already made are not refunded, except where the law requires it or where a fault on our side prevented you from using what you paid for — in that case email [email protected] and it will be dealt with reasonably. If the price changes, you will be told by email before it applies to you.

Availability

Backvest is operated by a single person and is offered without an uptime guarantee. It may be unavailable for maintenance, upgrades, or reasons outside our control, and features may change or be withdrawn.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Backvest and its operator are not liable for any investment losses or for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the service in the twelve months before the claim.

Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the product changes. Material changes will be reflected in the “last updated” date below, and continued use after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the state in which the operator is organised, which this page will name once the operating entity is finalised.
